Update: Weather clears, Coast Guard searches third time for Skagway hiker

JUNEAU, Alaska - A third attempt by an MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew in addition to a Juneau Mountain Rescue personnel on board were unsuccessful in finding Kyle Dungan after completing their search Tuesday in the vicinity of Meade Glacier in Tongass National Forest east of Haines.

Dense fog in the search area cleared enough to allow the helicopter crew to search for Dugan Tuesday afternoon but upon arriving Dugan didn't reply on his radio when hailed.  The Coast Guard crew returned to Juneau after the search to refuel arriving at 4:25 p.m.

Weather permitting, the Coast Guard is scheduled to send the Jayhawk again Wednesday morning including a Juneau Mountain Rescue team on board.  Once on scene, if the Coast Guard can get the mountain rescue team within two miles or less of Dungan's position, the Jayhawk will lower the team so they can hike to his location.

The Coast Guard has been attempting to rescue Dugan since Monday but rescue attempts have been hampered by harsh weather including dense glacier fog.
